Restoring
My Story

I had trauma and unresolved conflict from my childhood that I kept squashing down ... I had emotions that I buried as deep as I could, and if they ever raised their head, I would try to bury them even deeper ... I had guilt and shame from many years of believing I had to be perfect to be worthy ... And then, work pressures were mounting ... my Dad's was diagnosed with cancer ... and suddenly, in my late 20's, I found myself in the midst of a nervous breakdown.

This began a journey that outworked over several years, and involved numerous counsellors as I moved towns. My counsellors helped me challenge unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, and encouraged me in the process of building new, healthier habits. They encouraged me as I faced the pain of my past, and as I learnt to put down the guilt and shame I had carried for so long. And with their help, I slowly but surely moved from a life of pain and dysfunction toward a life of healing and wholeness, helping me to Restore My Story.

It is from these profound experiences that I decided to become a counsellor. I believe every person matters, and that the stories we tell ourselves, and that others speak over us, have a huge influence on the type of life we lead.

I want to help you find the freedom, healing and wholeness that I have found, as we journey together towards Restoring Your Story!

How I Work

I am trained in person centred therapy, and practise from this framework. This means that I use active listening and empathy to hear your story, and seek to help you find the answers to your situations that are right for you.

I am also currently learning Narrative Therapy, which looks at the narratives (stories) we tell ourselves, and asks questions about our stories to help us understand the path life has taken us on. As we explore our narratives, we often find strengths and skills they have used in the past that can help them work through their current and future difficulties.
